Questions: I have a few cracks and splits in my concrete sidewalk. How can they easily and cost-effectively resolve?
Answer: When there are splits and cracks in sidewalks, there are normally one or two procedures. The first is a basic concrete repair so if there are isolated areas in the concrete causing trip hazards, we saw-cut those out and do an isolated repair to that area with our epoxy mortar. The trick to that kind of work is the prep work – this can go wrong when a product is simply installed on top of a bad area. That area has to be saw cut, all the debris has to be removed and then you have to have a good solid working area to put a new product in.
In areas where concrete is more pitted and spalled or it’s more of a constant problem throughout the area, a concrete repair doesn’t work. Then you have to get into the world of overlays. That’s when Simon Surfaces would install a liquid epoxy. We mix it with some aggregate to turn it into more of a mortar and in essence, we resurface the entire area. Again, the prep work is key. Before you resurface any area, you have to make necessary minor repairs, prime it, form it and the install an overlay over the entire area.
