SIMON ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE FLOORING SYSTEM

Simon ESD is a flooring system ideal for several environments, especially those with sensitive electrical components, which require a floor that reduces or even eliminates Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

ESD happens anytime there is frictional contact between two chemically dissimilar materials – for example, a comb in your hair or walking across a floor. This static charge remains on the surface of your body until you touch something with electrical conductivity like a doorknob or another person. This sudden transfer of static electricity or current is called ESD. Most humans will notice ESD at 3,500 volts but even the slightest amount of voltage can wreak havoc on ultra-sensitive circuits of electrical equipment.

There is a scale that most ESD-sensitive environments rely on to determine what type of flooring is required. Several factors determine what is required, including industry standard, footwear and flooring material.

Simon ESD Flooring System offers a conductive version that falls the range of less than 10^6 ohms and a dissipative version that measures greater than 10^6 ohms and less than 10^9 ohms.

Surface Resistance Point to Point Average (ohms) Surface Resistance Point to Ground Average (ohms) System Classification
Simon ESD Conductive 1.39E+05 1.42E+05 Conductive
Simon ESD Dissipative 2.98E+07 3.13E+07 Dissipative

Values above indicate resistance in scientific notation. For example, 1.00E+06 is 1 Megohm (1 million ohms expressed as 1.00 x 10^6 ohms) and 1.00E+09 is 1 Gigohm (1 billion ohms expressed as 1.00 x 10^9 ohms). This chart reflects ANAB testing.

According to third-party ANAB accredited testing laboratory, Simon ESD flooring systems qualify for the following certifications:

  • Full ANSI/ESD S20.20 Flooring System
  • ANSI/ESD STM 7.1/ESDSTM 97.1 when used with heels straps or similar footwear
  • ANSI/ESD STM 97.2 when used with heels straps or similar footwear
  • ASTM F-150-06 for dissipative and conductive flooring

Simon’s in-house employs a team of scientists and chemists to develop these highly technical applications. They also will meet with our customers to discuss the ESD concerns of their unique environment and identify the best solution for their requirements.
