Polya-what? Polyaspartic coatings are a relatively new innovation used commonly as a top layer on concrete surfaces. The material resembles polyurethane from a chemical makeup standpoint.
Polyaspartics’ best characteristic: ability to withstand sun exposure
One of the greatest advantages of a polyaspartic finish is its performance when exposed to ultraviolet light. Color is virtually unaffected. Many times, our customers choose our products because of their ability to be custom-colored to conform to brand requirements. Polyaspartic topcoats are fade-resistant, so they work well in outdoor locations like fuel pump islands, particularly with image-conscious brands.
Other benefits of polyaspartic coatings:
- Quick curing – full strength within an hour
- High levels of protection for surface or structure underneath the topcoat
- Bonds easily to many types of concrete surfaces
- Withstands high temperatures
- Resistant to stains and chemicals like oil, gas and salt
For these reasons, Simon Surfaces has been using polyaspartic coatings in its fuel island restorations for years, particularly for those in southern climates where UV rays are more intense. Our customers are very satisfied with the color and fade resistance of their restored islands, as well as the quick return to service. Check out some before and after transformations.
