Case Study: Office Building Entranceway
The main entrance went from having weathered, damaged tile to having an anti-slip, attractive surface – in just one day.
That was the end result for a state-of-the-art biotechnology office and lab in Durham, N.C., whose main entryway had become a real eyesore. It certainly wasn’t presenting the positive image they aimed for. And it was now posing a safety concern for employees and visitors.
Simon Surfaces’ recommended solution for this high-visibility area was to install Simon FX, a soft, flexible rubber resurfacing system. An added benefit to it was that it could be installed directly over the damaged tile, saving the customer a costly, time-consuming, disruptive tear-out and replacement.
The new surface was hand-troweled by Simon Surfaces installers using high-grade rubber granules with a durable urethane binder at a half-inch thickness. Simon FX also resolved previous safety issues through its anti-skid, anti-slip features. The project was completed in just one day with no landscaping or debris issues and minimal disruption to any main entrance foot traffic.
“One of the hesitations many customers have with replacing concrete – and in this case tile over concrete – is the disruption it causes to their business,” said Rich Serignese, Simon Surfaces vice president. “With this project, we were able to avoid extended downtime by using the existing surface as the foundation, installing a new system over top of it, and turning it into a high-quality, professional entrance that the customer was proud of.”
